Are you a penguin fan?  San Francisco is a great place to learn about these fascinating birds.  The California Academy of Sciences has an African penguin colony, and features live penguin cams on its website where you can see the penguins play: http://www.calacademy.org/webcams/penguins/ . There’s even a book in the county libraries about one of the Academy’s penguins entitled Pierre the Penguin, by Jean Marzollo. The San Francisco Zoo also has a penguin colony, but its members are South American Magellanic penguins: http://www.sfzoo.org/magellanicpenguin

To find information on penguins in the Marinet catalog look under the subject heading: Penguins.   To find stories about penguins use the subject heading: Penguins Fiction.  A classic children’s story about penguins is Mr. Popper’s Penguins, by Richard Atwater.  Need more information?  Call the Reference Desk at your local library.
