Valentine’s Day is the holiday observed on February 14th in honor of several Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine. It is the day on which lovers express their feelings for each other by giving cards and gifts. Though the roots of Valentine’s Day go back to pre-Christian times, the day first became associated with romantic love in the Middle Ages when the tradition of courtly love flourished. A good way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart is to watch a romantic movie. The American Film Institute has published a list of the 100 Greatest Love Stories of All Time: http://ow.ly/8WcAh . To find these movies in the Marinet catalog start by typing in a movie title: “Casablanca,” “An Affair to Remember,” and so forth. From the results of your initial search you can click on the green “Limit This Search” button at the top of the page. Under “Material Type” click on “DVD,” and at the bottom of the page hit the “Go” button: http://ow.ly/8Wdne . You can find the DVDs at your local library, or you can request to have them sent there. Happy Valentine’s Day!
