Posting & Distribution Policy

I. OVERVIEW
As part of its information mission, the library provides access to community information through the distribution of free handouts or the public posting of non-commercial flyers, notices, and posters. Such materials are limited to those of a civic, cultural, educational, and/or recreational nature.

II. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS
Materials must be pre-approved by library staff. Each Branch Manager or Community/Mobile Library Specialist decides what their location can display, distribute, or store. The distribution or posting of materials by the library does not necessarily indicate the library's endorsement of the issues or events promoted by those materials.

III. POSTING PRIORITIES
Due to space limitations, libraries may not be able to display or post all items submitted. Items for posting will be selected according to the priorities detailed below:

  • If space is severely limited: only Marin County Free Library materials will be made available.
  • If some space is available: priority will be given to materials from other local libraries, local government, the local school district, and the local community college.
  • If more space is available: priority is then extended to materials from local non-profit organizations.
