One of the more common requests we [librarians] receive for children’s reading recommendations is for tweens reading at an advanced reading level. The challenge is for stories that contain elements such as complex storylines, thought-provoking content, complex character development, or advanced vocabulary, without mature themes encountered during later teenage years.
In addition to hunting for fictional literature, also explore narrative nonfiction, engaging stories about inspirational people, history, science, or the arts. Use the interests and curiosities or your preteen as a guide.
