The web and print media are rife with “best book of 2012” lists right now.    I’m curious about what our local Marin County “Best Reads of 2012” list would look like. 

Whether you went along for the ride in the thriller Gone Girl or hiked along with Cheryl Strayed in Wild, enjoyed the glories of the Italian coast spiked with the lure of Hollywood in Beautiful Ruins, or reveled in the politics of Tudor history in Bring up the Bodies, let us know what  your favorite books from 2012 were.   Share your gems--  not necessarily from the bestseller lists, just what you enjoyed reading the most in 2012, and we’ll compile a list to post on our website.

I’ll start things off:  one of my favorites from the past year was Ready Player One by  Ernest Cline--  a bit of 80’s nostalgia cyberquest set in a not-too distant future.

Room by Emma Donoghue

It was absolutely amazing.  Extremely well-written, gripping and heart-opening. I couldn't put it down.

The Boy Kings of Texas, by Domingo Martinez

After listening (and laughing) to the author reading an excerpt from this book on This American Life, I put my name on the waiting list for this title. I read it eagerly-- and I got a lot more than laughs. It gave me an interesting perspective on life growing up in a border town. I can see why it was nominated for the National Book Award. -Christine

11/22/63 by Stephen KIng

What if one important event in our history never  happened?  How different would our lives be?  What if

we had the ability to go back in time and actually keep this event from happening?  The premise for 11/22/63...  and the

mission for Jake, a likeable character, determined to change our course by preventing the assassination of JFK.

Filled with adventure, humor, and romance...   an absorbing, creative read.
