You can check out free passes for the Bay Area Discovery Museum at the Marin County Free Library! Each MCFL pass admits six people and can be checked out for one week.

Library Databases for Kids

From ebooks to language learning to homework help, the Marin County Free Library offers a variety of free, online research and resources that can be accessed from within the library and from home.

Axis 360 offers interactive eBooks. Many titles are enhanced by color, video, and audio using the Blio reading app -- great for picture books, cookbooks, craft books, graphic novels and other books with color images. The Blio app is also compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. All eBooks include a text-to-speech for the print-impaired.

A comprehensive collection of full-text biographies, including the complete full-text run of Biography Today and Biography, as well as thousands of narrative biographies that are not available in other databases, in addition to keyword searching, users can also locate biographies of interest by browsing more than 30 genre categories, including actors, authors, composers, explorers, figures relevant to U.S. & world history, inventors, musicians, Presidents of the United States, current world leaders and many others.

An interactive literacy resource that builds a love of reading and learning, online! BookFlix pairs classic fictional video storybooks from publisher Weston Woods with nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to reinforce reading skills and develop essential real-world knowledge and understanding. BookFlix is accessible to every child – early readers, reluctant readers, and English Language Learners.

Green Planet Stream is the companion site to Green Planet Films, a nonprofit distributor of nature and enviromental films from around the globe. Green Planet Stream promotes enviromental education through film.

Students can connect live with an expert tutor for homework assistance in English or Spanish, Monday through Friday from 1PM to 10 PM, PST, Kindergarten to Adult. They also provide a writing lab, test center, Live Skill Building, Foreign Language Lab and an adult learning center.

Designed for elementary school students, Kids Search makes it easy for students to search by keyword or by topic to find useful resources and features a dictionary, an encyclopedia, and images. Students can search across the following databases simultaneously: Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, History Reference Center, Middle Search Plus, Newspaper Source, Primary Search and Science Reference Center.

An online language learning system for ages 0-6, Little Pim, powered by Mango Languages, introduces children to foreign language in a way that is accessible and engaging. The method incorporates words and themes that are relevant to a child’s daily life, and research shows that early language learning enhances verbal development, social and cognitive skills.

A fun, fast and easy language learning program that provides self-directed language instruction in a variety of languages  and focuses on everyday conversational skills. Languages offered include, but are not limited to Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Also includes English instruction tailored to speakers of Brazilian, Portuguese, Polish, and Spanish.

This comprehensive database, designed specifically for high school research, contains full text articles for nearly 500 popular high school magazines including America's Civil War, American Heritage, American History, Archaeology, Astronomy, Bioscience, Careers & Colleges, Civil War Times, Congressional Digest, Discover, History Today, Nation, National Review, New Republic, New Scientist, Popular Science, Science News, Scientific American, Smithsonian, World War II, etc.

All full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles) and full text articles are also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays.
