Six of the nine movies nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award of 2012 are based on books.  Read the book, see the movie, and be the judge: which is better?

Argo is based on the book by the main character, CIA agent Tony Mendez, Argo: how the CIA and Hollywood pulled off the most audacious rescue in history.

Les Miserables, of course, is based on the stage play that is based on the classic 19th century novel, Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo.

Life of Pi is based on the novel of the same name by Martel Yan.

Lincoln is based in part on the biography by Doris Kearns Goodwin,  Team of Rivals: the political genius of Abraham Lincoln.

Silver Linings Playbook is based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quick.

Zero Dark Thirty tells of the events leading up to the capture of Osama bin Laden, as does No Easy Day: the autobiography of a Navy SEAL: the firsthand account of the mission that killed Osama Bin Laden, by Mark Owen.
