Display of books for Native American Heritage MonthWhat began at the turn of the century as an attempt to gain a day of recognition for the significant contributions of the first Americans has resulted in a whole month being designated for this purpose.  In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution declaring November 1990 “Native American National Heritage Month”.  Similar proclamations, with variations on the name, have been issued each year since 1994.   For more information on this celebration of Native Americans and their culture go to: http://nativeamericanheritagemonth.gov   To find books on Native Americans in the Marin County Free Library search under the subject Heading: Indians of North America http://ow.ly/7nqnE
