I am tremendously excited to join the Marin County Free Library as the Director of Library Services. I had the great pleasure of visiting all Marin County Free Libraries each month since my appointment in April and met individually with nearly all of the Library’s employees, Friends, Advisory Commission and County officials before I came on board July 8. I believe good communication is a critical element for success and Interim Director Scott Bauer coordinated visits to all the libraries in the system. At each location I enjoyed one- on-one conversations with nearly all of our library staff.
My 25 years experience in libraries is made up of six years at the Carson City Library where I brought innovation and technology improvements to the Nevada's capital city library. Three projects I am particularly proud of are a fully automated branch at the Boys & Girls Club, a business resource branch co-located with City business licensing and development services and a state of the art digital media lab, both funded by the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.
I also served as Nevada’s State Librarian and Administrator of the Nevada State Library and Archives from 2001-2007 where I applied for and received over a million dollars in grant funding to assist in recruiting over 120 students to obtain master’s degrees in library and information science. I was the Director, Elko-Lander-Eureka County Library System in Elko, Nevada where I managed a 10 branch system and bookmobile service that covered four counties and traveled 55,000 miles a year.
My husband, Martin, is an accountant and we have two teenage children, Russel, 19 and Elaine, 17. We have two “rescue” dogs and four cats and I enjoy walking, camping and traveling in my free time. My Masters degree in Library and Information Science is from Syracuse University and I have a BA in Interpersonal Communications from Boise State University and I am currently finishing my PhD in Library and Information Science at the University of North Texas.
I want to let the community know I welcome any advice and input into leading this outstanding library system towards future achievements. I can be reached at (415) 473-6053 or firstname.lastname@example.org
