Even though it is only the beginning of March, spring wildflowers are in full force now. This yellow green leafed plant has bright yellow flower balls. It blooms in scattered clumps in coastal grasslands. You can start looking for it in early February. It is commonly know as Footsteps of Springs or sanicula arctopides.
This hard-to-find flower is known as the fairy slipper or Venus's slipper and is a perennial member of the orchid family.
The calypso orchid or calypso bulbosa can be found on the Steep Ravine Trail of Mt. Tam.
