Literary awards take center stage this month.  On October 10th, the Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded to Canadian author Alice MunroDear Life is her most recent collection of short stories.  For more information on Alice Munro and the Nobel Prize, go to www.nobelprize.org.

The Man Booker Prize was  awarded to Eleanor Catton for her novel, The Luminaries on October 15thAt 28, Catton is the youngest person to win the Man Booker Prize.  Her novel is also the longest novel (832 pages) to win the prestigious award.

The finalists for the National Book Award were announced on October 16th.  There are five finalists in each of the four categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People’s Literature.  The winners will be announced in New York City on November 20th.
