Message from the Library Director

Gail HaarWelcome to MCFL: the Marin County Free Library, I am so glad you chose to visit us!

Marin County is a special place and our libraries play a special role in the life of our community. Our 10 branches are conveniently located, from West Marin on the ocean to Novato in the north to Marin City in the south. Our bookmobile travels hundreds of miles each year, bringing the library to schools, senior centers and isolated communities. The Anne T. Kent California History Room is a treasure trove of lore about Marin’s past.

Our branches hum with activity - story times for children, teen programming and book clubs for all ages; plus informative lectures and family activities. Literacy tutoring pairs often work side by side with students of all ages. Computer users take advantage of public workstations while laptop users enjoy our excellent and free wireless network.

We are proud of our collection of books for adults and children and teens that range from popular fiction to history and science. Many folks stop in and make a selection to take home. And others just come to enjoy the atmosphere and read in our congenial surroundings.

Our website is an electronic service hub, where you can download e-books; request a book to be held for you or renew your books; check our calendar of events; ask our librarians a question; learn a language or get live homework help. You can Friend us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

If you are able to share your time and expertise with us, we have many volunteer opportunities available ask at your local branch or visit: http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/hr/ccvol/index.cfm.   MCFL has active Friends of the Library groups as well as a Library Foundation.  Find out more about them at www.marinlibrary.org/about-the-library/support-the-library.

This is your library so please give us your ideas and suggestions, whether online or in a branch, our comment form is always available.
