Searching for CDs

Music CDs from the Marin County Free Library can be checked out for three weeks. Two renewals are allowed on all circulating materials except reserved items. Use the Library Catalog to find music in a variety of ways:

Author - Search by author to find CDs by a particular artist or composer, for example, "Santana, Carlos" or "Gershwin, George."

Title - Search for the title of a CD or song to find a recording, for example, "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan," or "Rhapsody in Blue."

Subject - Search by subject to find recordings of a particular type or genre of music, for example, "Piano Music" or "Popular Music -- Mexico." (See the list of catalog links to common music genres below.)

Searching for DVDs/Videos

Concerts, operas, musicals, ballets, and other musical performances on DVD or video from the Marin County Free Library can be checked out for one week. Two renewals are allowed on all circulating materials except reserved items. Use the Library Catalog to find these items in a variety of ways:

Author - Search by author to find DVDs or videos by a particular performer, for example, "Clapton, Eric." Narrow results to the preferred format by clicking on the "Limit This Search" button, selecting DVD or Video/Film under Material Type, and then clicking on the "Go" button.

Title - Search by title to find DVDs or videos of a particular opera, musical or concert, for example, "Carmen" or "Rent."

Subject - Browse the list of music DVDs by searching subjects such as "Music Videos" or "Concert Films." For a specific genre of music, search for the type of music, for example, "Operas" or "Jazz." (See the list of catalog links to common music genres below.)

Search tip: If your search yields many results that are not CDs or DVDs, limit results by clicking the "Limit This Search" button and selecting DVD or MUSIC CD/TAPE/RECORD under Material Type.
